Hanuman Chalisa
The Hanuman Chalisa, composed by the saint-poet Goswami Tulsidas, stands as one of the most beloved devotional hymns in the Indian spiritual tradition. Written in the Awadhi language in the 16th century, this forty-verse poem praises the virtues, courage, and unwavering devotion of Sri Hanuman, the embodiment of strength, service, and surrender to Lord Rama.
Tulsidas’s divine inspiration continues to uplift and guide millions of devotees across generations. His compositions, especially the Ramcharitmanas and the Hanuman Chalisa, have served as both spiritual compasses and literary masterpieces rooted deeply in bhakti rasa.
We are immensely honoured to have been blessed by Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri 1008 Ramabhadracharya Ji Maharaj, revered Peethadhipathi of Tulasi Peeth, Chitrakoot (www.tulsipeeth.org). A scholar, poet, and living embodiment of Rama bhakti, his divine blessings bestow sanctity and grace upon this humble compilation. On his advice, the corrections in the Chaupai has also been incorporated here.
This is our first publication from Natanam and has been compiled with deep devotion, aiming to make each verse accessible to a broader audience. The Chalisa is presented in the original script, with phonetic transliteration to Kannada and English and simple English meanings to enable seekers—both young and old—to connect with its essence. We also thank Yuvaraj Sri Ramachandra Das Ji. We Thank Prof. S Sadagopan, Chair of our Advisory at Natanam Trust for his foreword, and Prof. Radhakrishna our Advisor, for his message. We thank Shri Ashutosh Tiwari, for taking us to Ramabhadracharya Swamy Ji Maharaj Ji to receive his blessings. We thank Kum. Divya Dharmarajan & Kum. Sumeru Karthik for their illustrations.
This edition is a heartfelt offering to invoke Hanuman’s strength, wisdom, and protection in every household, temple, and heart.
Let this sacred hymn inspire us to live with courage, humility, and unwavering devotion—just as Hanuman did.
Jai Hanuman! Jai Siya Ram!
